A very simple, tangy and flavorful recipe of fish curry made with raw/unripe mango, goes extremely well with hot steamed rice.

Instructions

1. Marinate 6-7 fish pieces with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder. keep it aside for 10 minutes. (i have used rohu fish here, you can use any fish of your choice).

2. Heat 6-7 tsp of mustard oil in a pan and fry the fish pieces in batches till they are nice and crisp from both the sides for about 4-5 minutes. keep it aside.

3. In the same pan, add some more oil if required, 1/2 tsp mustard seeds and 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds / methi seeds. let it splutter a bit, add few curry leaves and one medium thinly sliced onion. fry it well for about 3-4 minutes.

4. Add 1/2 tsp grated ginger / ginger paste, 1/2 tsp garlic paste / grated ginger garlic, 2 slit green chilies and fry it for another 2-3 minutes.

5. Next add 2 medium size chopped tomatoes and cook it well until it becomes soft.

6. Next lower the flame and add salt to taste, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 to 1 tsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder and mix the spices well. add little warm water if required.

7. Once oil starts to separate from sides of the pan, add 1.5 cups of warm water. mix it well and add one medium size of unripe mango cut into wedges lengthwise with the skin on.

8. Cover and allow the mango pieces to cook for 5-6 minutes on a medium flame.

9. Next add the fried pieces of fish. cover and cook it for 3-4 minutes or until the mango pieces soften.

10. Lastly add some chopped coriander leaves. give everything a nice mix and it's done. switch off the flame, allow it to rest for 2-3 minutes and it's ready.
