Bisi bele bath (hot lentil rice)is a popular rice based recipe from Karnataka. Made with rice, tuar dal, mix vegetables and bisi bele bath masala. This is a spicy and tangy version of khichadi from down south. Techniqe is same as khichdi but some extra spices, tamrind, Karnataka special byadgi chilli, jaggery and coconut also goes in this recipe. Just like khichdi ke hain 4 yaar, Bbb too has 4 yaars -- khara (spicy) potato chips, khara boondi, ghee and mix veg raita.

Instructions

1. Add the soaked toor dal / split pigeon peas and rice in a pressure cooker together with salt, turmeric powder and water.

2. When cooked 70 %, then add diced carrots, potato, capsicum, tomato, green peas and beans. cook them until soft.

3. For tempering, in ghee add mustard seeds, curry leaves, peanuts, whole red chilli ,sliced onions, bisi bele bath masala and mix it in the khichdi.

4. Also add jaggery and tamarind pulp. cook for few minutes. serve hot with a garnish of khara boondi and ghee.
